Past Opry Performers

Abita Strings Bluegrass Band - This home town bluegrass ensemble is the Opry's "House Band". Setting the pace for every show, the Abita Strings have taken Traditional to another level.

Driskill Mountain Boys - These guys from Clinton, Louisiana have been around playing bluegrass music for many years. They played previously at the Abita Springs Opry as well as the Piney Woods Opry. They are a real crowd pleaser.

Shallow Creek Bluegrass Band - High energy bluegrass featuring gospel numbers are performed by this family group. They hail from right across the State line in Picayune, Mississippi. They have played regularly around the area and have several recordings to their credit.

Jeff & Vida - A return act to the Opry featuring bluegrass and original songs. They wowed the audience at their previous performances. Vida has a remarkable soulful quality to her voice that makes the listener feel the music.

Red Stick Ramblers - The Red Stick Ramblers play a mixture of Cajun fiddle tunes, Western Swing, traditional jazz of the 1920s and 1930s alongside a steadily growing number of tradition-inspired originals. Based in Southern Louisiana, they build upon the songs of seminal fiddlers like Dennis McGee and Dewey Balfa, along with jazz and country swing bandleaders such as Bob Wills and Django Reinhardt, finding a common thread of danceable rhythms and strong, elegant melodies.

Kim Carson - Kim is a very popular country musician from New Orleans. She has performed regularly at the Jazzfest, and she has just completed a summer European tour.

Don Vappie and the Creole Jazz Seranaders - What a treat for us! This group offers a departure from country and bluegrass music. (Opry Lagniappe) They feature traditional "roots" jazz music. They are regulars at the Jazzfest. These guys are the "real deal." Don't miss this one.

Jimmy Foster - Besides being one of the most outstanding jazz guitarists in this area, Jimmy is one of the leading guitar builders in the country.

Amanda Shaw - The precocious Amanda became hooked on violin when she was barely four years old At seven, she was the youngest person ever to play with the Baton Rouge Symphony as a soloist. Amanda moved from classical to Cajun music after she was contacted by the Rosie O'Donnell Show. The show's producer thought the audience might like to hear a sampling of homegrown Louisiana music. www.amandashaw.com

The Porch Rockers - These guys will take you to places long forgotten or memories you'll never forget. When you catch this group you'll hear a groove that only comes from players that know each other like the back of your hand.

Harold Cavallero with Danny Paige - Harold is one of the finest dobro players anywhere. He always brings outstanding musicians to the show. Danny is no exception. Gifted with a powerful voice, he will treat you with old-time country music sung in a style that can only be described as "ear sugar."

Christian Serpas & Ghost Town - If Mr. Serpas grew up anywhere, it should have been in Memphis in the 1950's. He has a style that can be compared to Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Buddy Holly and Hank Williams. Ghost Town rocked the Opry like never before.

Broken Grass - A bluegrass-based collective sound of jazz and country groove. The sextet features vocal harmony from four of its members, as well as hypnotic jazz-influenced guitar playing by Zacc Harris.

Gary White - is a Covington native who decided about four years ago to take a chance. He took a world globe, gave it a spin, shut his eyes and pointed. He ended up in Germany and has been there ever since, spreading the blues, country and folk music of South Louisiana.

Keenan Knight - A Bogalusa resident who is well known among musicians in this area. Keenan mixes country, Bluegrass, and traditional Blues music. His superior playing and singing will be a treat for the ears.

Ben Manuel -The brother of Joe Manuel the leader of the Abita Strings. He is a singer songwriter who performs in the traditional style. He is also a virtuoso of several musical instruments.

Backroads Pickers -Featuring Steve Anderson. Steve knows all of the classical country tunes that we all love, and his deep, rich voice rolls them out in a style that grabs all attention.

Eh, La-Bas -Alida & Moise Viator are members of the famous Familie Viator from Southwest Louisiana who build musical instruments. They perform a gumbo mix of Cajun & Creole using latin rhythms & jazzy backbeats.

Jethro & Sadie -Bob and June Lambert have been performing country and gospel music since the 1930s. He is roots music. They play the part to a T.

Jude LeBlanc -Jude is the House Sound Engineer for the Abita Springs Opry. Every other season we get him up on stage to hear a very technical accoustic guitar performance that soothes your soul.

Hugh Harris - He came to the opry and was amazed at the crowd. The crowd was amazed about him, as he performed a tribute to Hank Williams and southern gospel. The Abita Strings jumped up on stage to help him bring down the house on his last song.
